Research and Management
By Victor S. Kennedy and Linda L. Breisch
This critical review and synthesis of literature on the eastern oyster Crassostrea virginica, was published in 1981 for fishery resource managers, researchers and students of marine biology. While out of print for a number of years, we continue to get requests for photocopies of it, a testament to its value as a resource. It not only brings together the most important literature written on the eastern oyster up to 1981, but also synthesizes this extensive material into an overall, analytical examination of the species. It was the first complete review of oyster literature since 1952. Chapters in the book include Biology of the Oyster, Managing Maryland's Oyster Industry, Questions for Further Research, Summary and References Cited. The last section of the book includes the Annotated Bibliography of Chesapeake Bay Oyster Literature; produced earlier as a separate publication and as the final chapter of this book, it summarizes selected literature and also includes an index.
